Self Across the Curriculum for K-12 Educators

Description:

Self Across the Curriculum (SAC) participants enhance their ability to make a lasting difference with young people.

K-12 teachers use the SAC to integrate mental health and socio-emotional well-being through academic curriculum to address the whole child

well-being needs to be happy, healthy, and flourishing to the level of their unique potential.

Format: 1 full day; or (3) 2-hour sessions

Participants: K-12 Educators

Participants learn how to help young people develop their own paradigm of Self, self-understanding, self-esteem, and
character to dramatically impact their academic achievement and overall quality of life. Participants learn to empower what is possible for their K-12 students versus focusing upon problems to fix. Once these ideas and approaches are learned in professional development settings, they can be used in the classroom. They are incorporated into the development and delivery of lesson plans, across all academic subjects, helping students to be better, more engaged learners. The course manual serves as a reference guide to draw upon when teaching and assessing students.

The theoretical basis of SAC is that students will be better learners in their academic subjects if they know themselves better. The focus is on a self-concept construct that includes: epistemology, locus of control, identity and character development. Our underlying assumption is that each young person is on a unique path of personal discovery to create his or her own destiny, and to live a life of total health, wholeness, and accomplishment.

The Integrated Self for K-12 Educators

Description:

The Integrated Self (iSelf) model is a scientific, evidence-based, research-based assessment and intervention tool that measures multiple attributes of psychological well-being, including: purpose, hopes and dreams for your life; emotional and socio-emotional intelligence; self- esteem, self-efficacy, and self-understanding; personal identity and beliefs; and intrinsic motivation.

The iSelf model is used in clinical practice as a prevention, intervention and assessment tool into the psychological, emotional, physical, whole-person well-being needs. This model is a researched, evidence-based model that is copyrighted and can be used with permission and training. The Integrated Self or iSelf model emerges from the interaction of current scientific information about the direct influence by emotions, both positive and negative, upon cognitive functioning. These emotions, in turn, are based upon personal relevancy and meaningfulness and are the controlling switch by which effective learning takes place or not. A positive emotional approach facilitates a sense of wellbeing that, in turn, enhances a willingness to learn.
